synopsis
Reading With Ease: An Alternative Method, volume 1, is a research-based curriculum designed for neurodivergent learners, ESL students, and English language learners who benefit from direct, individualized reading support. Grounded in decades of literacy research, volume 1 uses one-to-one instruction, pre-teaching vocabulary with high frequency Dolch and Fry sight words, systematic phonics, and word-representational images to strengthen reading skills and fluency. Developed by Elaine Peters, this alternative method helps bridge gaps in reading access for learners with unique needs. By building confidence, curiosity, independence, and fluency, the curriculum opens the door to written language and encourages a lifelong desire to explore the world of reading and connection through verbal or written communication with other people.
Intended age/grade range
As the parent of a child with moderately severe autism and an intellectual disability, Elaine experienced firsthand the challenges of navigating gaps in traditional reading instruction. Determined to find better solutions, she began developing structured strategies rooted in literacy research and practical application. What began as advocacy for her own child became a carefully designed series that now supports many other learners on their reading journey.
